About the Collection

Art Basel is The Most Prestigous Art Fair In the World. Collect Art Basel Artists at Artspace.

Broadening interest in contemporary art has produced an explosion in both attendance at and number of art fairs around the world. Today, there are over 400 regularly scheduled art fairs in locations ranging from Paris to Perth, Dubai, Hong Kong, New York, Chicago, Brussels, and London. The art fair that has set the standard for them all opens each year during the second week of June in the town of Basel, Switzerland.

Art Basel and its sister fair, Art Basel Miami Beach (staged during the first week of December), attract the world’s leading collectors, as well as the most prominent dealers. This June, nearly 300 galleries from 35 countries, as well as more than 60,000 visitors, attended the fair, which featured not only a range of works from both modern masters and cutting-edge contemporary artists, but also curated installations and film series.

The selection process for Art Basel is rigorous. A committee reviews over 1,000 applications, narrowing the field based on the gallery’s tenure, quality of artists, and geographic diversity. In addition to the fair, Basel is home to the Fondation Beyeler, which houses an impressive collection of masterworks from the modernist period in a light-filled Renzo Piano-designed museum. If you have an opportunity to attend, this is definitely a worthwhile diversion.

The Long Dissolve by Burt Barr

We’re thrilled to present accessibly priced artworks by artists that were just shown at the 42nd edition of Art Basel. Mirroring the composition of the fair, they range from art world icons like Ed Ruscha and Louise Bourgeois to the tattoo-artist Dr Lakra. Overall, 49 Artspace artists presented work at the fair. A full list is below. We highlighted ten pieces in the collection because they represent the wide diversity of artistic expression that makes collecting contemporary art so rewarding. They range in price from $250 to $5,000.
