Mondrian, one of Los Angeles’ most renowned hotel destinations, has announced an exclusive new collaboration with Artspace.com, the premier online marketplace for contemporary art offering collectors and art enthusiasts the opportunity to discover, learn about, and collect art from world-renowned artists and emerging talent at affordable prices. Mondrian will bring Artspace to life offline as a specially curated pop-up gallery, open now through mid-June, in the hotel’s intimate, custom-designed retail space.

Following a series of successful Mondrian pop-up partnerships which have included high-end retail guru Ron Robinson, swimwear brand Shay Todd and intimates design leader Kiki de Montparnasse, the Artspace Pop-Up Gallery will offer Mondrian guests and visitors alike a selection of carefully chosen contemporary artwork from leading artists at price points between $250 and $4,500.
“As a leading model for the future of art commerce, Artspace seemed like a natural partner to complement Mondrian’s reputation for innovative retail concepts,” said Kim Walker, Senior Vice President and Creative Director, Morgans Hotel Group. “Mondrian’s guests have an imaginative aesthetic and have come to expect creative and inspired new products and services at our hotels, so this collaboration will help satiate that cultural appetite.”

The Artspace Pop-Up Gallery will feature a collection of limited edition works compiled exclusively for Mondrian Los Angeles. Highlighted pieces include compelling, unstaged Polaroid photographs from Jeremy Kost that expose the reality of celebrities and fashion and art elite with uncompromising immediacy. Other works of note come from Nick Cave, who turns sundry materials, such as cast-off clothing, flea market discoveries, and dyed human hair, into transformative “soundsuits” that double as sumptuous sculptures.
Additional artists in the collection include Daniel Rich, Ross Bleckner, Rebecca Graham, Alexis Rockman, Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir, Doug Geraghty, Clifford Ross, Kim Keever, Ross Bleckner and David Levinthal. Mondrian guests will receive a special discount of $50 off their first purchase. “Artspace.com is thrilled to collaborate with Mondrian, a leading innovator of boutique hotel trends,” said Catherine Levene, Co-Founder and CEO of Artspace. “Our team has curated an incredible collection of artwork that perfectly suits Mondrian’s trendsetting guests with the goal of increasing awareness about art and the world of collecting.”

The Mondrian and Artspace collaboration is the latest in the Morgans Hotel Group’s innovative retail series. In 2009, Mondrian in South Beach launched Semi-Automatic, an innovative, curated retail concept housed in an over-sized vending machine, occupying an entire wall in the hotel lobby. The much talked-about re-imagined hotel gift shop has redefined necessity by offering a myriad of luxury items at the touch of a fingertip, from a Paul Smith toothbrush to a 1974 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. Simultaneously, London launched ‘Front Room at St Martins Lane’ which has housed a number of successful collaborations including a satellite version of Andrew Ibi’s favoured Notting Hill fashion spot The Convenience Store, Angela Hill’s IDEA BOOKS and Dover St Market mini market, a smaller version of the Comme des Garcons run London concept store. Temperley London also set up shop in London’s Sanderson Hotel, bringing its central location to life in a pop-up format, with a selection of top-selling and handpicked collection pieces that have drawn raves from visitors to the property.
