On Stellar Rays, one of the sharper galleries on New York’s Lower East Side, took a fresh approach to celebrating Zipora Fried’s solo show of new drawings and altered photographs, titled Salon Noir, by teaming up with Morris Kitchen for an intimate sit-down dinner in the gallery, where guests were delightfully surrounded by the artist’s work. Fried’s large-scale drawings look like depictions of silky hair, but are actually an accumulation of graphite lines conveying motion, while her photo pieces layer a black-and-white portrait of the artist as a child with fuzzy, wool-stitched mask.
