Although Prospect.2 New Orleans is only a third the size of the first edition of the international contemporary biennial, it still packs a big visual punch. Prospect.1, which premiered in 2008, touted 80 important, international artists and an all-star advisory committee, while Prospect.2 offers 27 artists—split three ways between international, national, and local origins—and no listed committee; but it nevertheless provides a fascinating blend of contemporary art in a more manageable form. Cruising the Crescent City in a couple of days is all that’s needed to absorb the complexity of the art on view, which includes seminal works by Alexis Rockman, Sophie Calle, Nick Cave, Francesco Vezzoli, Jennifer Steinkamp, Ivan Navarro, Dawn DeDeaux, Ragnar Kjartansson, Keith Duncan, and An-My Lê.
